What is the cheapest way to go to disney world and universal in florida for one week ?

I have a family of 3, 2 adults and one 13yo lookin for a hotel and parkhoppers for 3 days at disney and 2 days at universal studios.|||I find that if I rent a house or villa, it is generally just slightly more that staying at Disney's cheapest hotels, and it is a lot bigger, and we save lots of money on food because we have a full-size kitchen. Go buy groceries and eat a big breakfast before you leave, a late lunch in the parks, and dinner in your house.

As far as tickets, the prices are the prices. You will not find any (legitimate) big discounts. Check the websites - that's the price.

You could stay at a super, super cheap hotel to save money, but then you would need to rent a car to get around and you would have to eat all your meals out. So it turns out that if you spend a little more on a kitchen, you end up saving more - at least, it always works that way for me.|||There are a couple things you can do to save a bit of cash on the tickets. You can all do the give a day, get a day and get a free ticket then upgrade it to a multiday park hopper.

There are also legitimate discount tickets availble at AAA, check at your work to see if they offer a discount and sometimes places like Costco or Sam's Club.

Do NOT buy single one day tickets as previously mentioned. The price per day goes down if you buy multiday tickets. You also may want to think about not getting a parkhopper option as there is usually so much you can do in each park. You can still come and go from the same park on a regualar ticket.

For Lodging, there are a lot of great hotels around. Most advertise free shuttles to the parks. Be carefull with these as sometimes its offered two or three times a day. You could be stuck at the park longer then you care to be.

Food can be very expensive inside the parks, All around especially on I-Drive there are tons of cheap restaurants and buffets. You can bring a backpack and picnic inside the parks if you want to haul your food around with you. At universal they offer the all day dining which is a steal if you like to eat a lot.

There are a number of money saving books with coupons, Have a great trip|||Cheapest?

Get single park passes instead of parkhoppers for Disney. Do the volunteer thing they have going on and that will be one free day in the park for everybody. If you're a FL resident make sure to specify when buying tickets you're looking for fl resident prices - this won't work if your from out of state as you have to show id.

You didn't mention plane tickets so I'm guessing your driving.

Stay off property. Since you'll be splitting your time between the two competitors I suggest you have your hotel be closer to the park you'll be visiting last.

As for hotel - when staying off property i usually go for Comfort Suites. There's one just north of Universal that has good rooms - free breakfast - and was clean and quiet.

If you want absolutely cheapest possible check out the Disney Campgrounds. Pitch a tent and you'll still have access to Disney transportation.

Stick to counter service for food and bring your own drinks and snacks - koolaid singles plus a bottle of water means a new drink is as close as the nearest water fountain. Combine with something high energy like honey roasted nuts - you won't be able to bring in a huge amount but you'd be surprised how much you save just by bringing your own drinks. Energy bars are good for this as well.

When I go with a 10yr old I usually bring our drinks, some trail mix and a couple granola bars. Get sandwiches for lunch, split an order of fries ( no need for drinks saves about 6 bucks) and you have a low cost meal.

Eat dinner off property and make sure to look for coupon books when you get to the area - you'll find them pretty much everywhere. Plenty of buffets in the area.
