Has anyone heard news on how Disney feels about this, and if they're planning on continuing the traditional animation/musical movie style revival?|||The traditionally-animated film before The Princess and the Frog was Home on the Range. It did very poorly, and Disney decided it would be the LAST traditionally animated film. Several years later they relented with The Princess and the Frog.
But I think they still consider traditional animation the 'back burner'. They make more money and get more attention these days with the digital efforts. And they really are wonderful, but I miss the traditional animation. Their main 'target demographic', kids and families, like the digital pics better. Plus I think these days the computer-generated animation is cheaper, even as beautifully and elaborately as they do it.|||Yes however they will be releasing a traditional animated film every 2 years like a previous person said. Look up the trailer for they new Winnie the Pooh, it looks like it has a lot of promise.

|||Though it appears that Disney took a break from traditionally animated films, they actually have never stopped producing them. They worked with Pixar to produce many other types of animated films, but the traditional Disney animation has never ended.
Since 1937, Disney has never gone more than 4 years without releasing an animated film, and those long breaks were decades ago. Home on the Range was not the last movie released before Princess and the Frog, contrary to the person who posted that information. There were 3 more movies in between those two. The last 10 traditional Disney animated movies were released between 2000 and 2009. They are, in reverse order:
1. Princess and the Frog, 2009
2. Bolt, 2008
3. Meet the Robinsons, 2007
4. Chicken Little, 2005
5. Home on the Range, 2004
6. Brother Bear, 2003
7. Treasure Planet, 2002
8. Lilo %26amp; Stitch, 2002
9. Atlantis: The Lost Empire, 2001
10. The Emperors New Groove, 2000
What really has happened, is that the traditionally animated movies haven't done as well at the box office as the Pixar movies have been. So with Pixar movies overshadowing regular animated Disney movies, many people have begun to think that Disney isn't doing them anymore. When in fact, Disney is doing them just as frequently, if not moreso, than they have in the past. Movie goers just haven't responded as they did during the Disney Renaissance.
Disney is continuing with their animation process though. Tangled comes out in November. While it's not Pixar animation, it's also not traditional animation. It's supposed to be a "Best of both worlds" kind of animation. Winnie the Pooh comes out in 2011, and Reboot Ralph in 2013. Disney-Pixar is also keeping busy with 3 new movies in the works: Cars 2, Monsters Inc 2 and Brave.|||Probably not. Hand drawn animation takes much longer and costs more to make than computer generated animation. On the other hand, they've been making "cartoons" with computers for quite a while now so you'll never know the difference anyway.|||If I'm not mistaken, they're planning to release traditionally-animated movies every two years or so.
