We are going to Florida next week and were planning on visiting Disney World for a total of 3 days. I know we want to go to Animal Kingdom, but I am torn what other parks we should go to; Magic Kingdom, Universal Studios, Epcott. I want to make sure we go to the parks that are suited best for a 5 year old.|||Since you are taking a 5 year old, don't even consider skipping the Magic Kingdom. In my opinion, that is where the Disney magic lives. On a cool morning you take the ferry boat from the Ticket and Transportation Center across the lake to the Magic Kingdom. The castle gets closer and the excitement builds. You get through the turnstiles and wait for the opening ceremony. The train pulls into the station and an assortment of Disney Characters get off to welcome you to the Magic Kingdom. Then they open the gates and you walk right down Main Street USA. Smell the cookies baking. See the castle in the distance. It is really wonderful.
Note that you do need to have a plan when you get there. If you spend 30 or 40 minutes milling around on main street you will get a bad start. Just know what you want to do first and stroll over to that attraction. No need to run. Just know where you are going, and go there.
Animal kingdom is another good choice. Then again, they are all good choices.
For the third day I would probably pick Hollywood Studios. It will be less ride oriented, but there are lots of good shows to see. Since this park is oriented around the shows, make sure you pick up a schedule at the front of the park.
One thing to remember. Ice cream can cure almost anything bad that can happen there.
Have fun. Wish I was going. The Magic Kingdom with a 5 year old can be a really neat experience.|||Magic Kingdom definitely. That is THE place to meet all the characters, not to mention some of the best rides and attractions are there, and so is Cinderella castle.
Buy a guidebook about traveling there with small children so you have a good idea. Birnbaum's is the best brand out there.
I advise that you go the Magic Kingdom on your first day, so the first thing your child will know is the magic castle :) I remember that from when I was little, and go to the 'Kingdom' first thing every time I go there. Also, there is so much to do at the Kingdom, you will definitely need a whole day at least to get through there.
I'm not going to lie, Animal Kingdom is little more than a zoo with rides. I love it, I am an animal person, but the kid definitely needs to go to the magic kingdom. The other 'best park' I think is Epcot. There are places for small kids to play, and an aquarium where they can (literally) find Nemo. Hollywood Studios has some places for small kids too.
You will have a blast. And, just to warn you, you will wish you had far more time to see everything the World has to offer. Disney World is everything people say about it, and more :) And it is constantly changing, so I don't think anyone will ever see everything.|||Magic Kingdom is the best for young kids:)
i was too old for it..because i'm 12 and it was more babyish rides, still good though:)
and erm..the other parks you should go are Universal Studios..because i'm telling you, that is the best theme park EVERRR!!
i loved it so so much..it was amazing!
erm, epcott is okay i guess?..its good..but its more for like going round and seeing different parts of the country in their opinions i guess?
too complicated and less things/rides to go on and have fun..
so i'd deffenitley go to Animal kingdom..but they have lots of fun rides and a safari where you get to see all the animals and its really cool:)|||oh my gosh! i am so happy for you! i have been to walt disney world 5 times and i read all the books. i would DEFINITELY go to the magic kingdom park.there is so much magic there when you walk through the gate.everything is soooo friendly and magical.excelent for kids and people of all ages. i have never been to universal studios though.epcot is wonderful! its more of a things to do park if you know wat i mean. like there are rides but its more of a resturant place and travel.its excellent though.so i guess its up to you and your kid and wat you feel like doing. p.s. if its raining head to epcot
check out the site too|||The Magic Kingdom is the best for kids. They have the rides and the character greetings and the parades. Epcot would be rather boring to a small child since most of it is about scientific stuff and countries. They will enjoy the Living Seas exhibit where they do Finding Nemo and Talking with Crush but the rest is a little over their head.
And I am guessing you mean Disney Studios. This place is good for kids too, they have the Little Mermaid show and the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground plus the Muppets in 3D.|||My 5 yr old loved the Magic Kingdom. They have so many rides for kids their age. He got to ride the Goofy Barnstormer.... I think that's the name of the rollercoaster. That was his 1st time on one and he went on 3 times. He also loved Dumbo ride,The speedway track. I mean he loved it all. And in the Animal Kingdom he loved the Dinosaur part of the park. It's like a carnival and they have tons of games and they also have a ride like the Dumbo but instead of Elephants they had dinosaurs. Im sure your 5 year old will have a blast.|||Universal Studios isn't a WDW park.
I suggest Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom for certain.
It is a toss up between Epcot and Disney Hollywood Studios. While my kids have loved Epcot, think there is probably a little more in DHS for younger kids.
ETA: Universal Studios is not all thrill rides. It has 1 thrill ride, Revenge of the Mummy.|||I'm not sure how long you are planning to stay or how many days you will spend at Disney parks during your trip, but for a five-year-old, I would suggest Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom as the top two parks.
Magic Kingdom has tons of things that children and parents alike can enjoy including most everything in Fantasy Land and Mickey's Toon Town which will keep you busy for at least half the day or more. Additionally, there are plenty of "slow" rides in other lands like Jungle Boat Cruise and Pirates of the Caribbean in Adventure Land. The steam boat ride that launches from Liberty Square is always a nice break. In Tomorrow Land, be sure to take in the Laugh Floor Comedy Club featuring the crew from Monsters, Inc.
In Animal Kingdom, take in Kilimanjaro Safari, Festival of the Lion King, all the walk-through treks where you can view the animals. One of my favorite things for young children at Animal Kingdom is to take the train ride to Conservation Station where you can interact with the goats, pigs and other animals. My best friend's daughter thought the train ride was amazing in itself, but then to get to touch the animals... well, she loved it when they ate from her hand.
As for a Disney hotel, I love Polynesian because it faces Magic Kingdom and you can watch the fireworks from the beach at night while lounging on the hammocks. They have a great family style restaurant called O'Hana where the children are invited to a hula "conga" line led by a Hawaiian singer. They are given leis to keep and noise makers to use during the trek around the restaurant. Parents are welcome to accompany if the child is a bit shy. Polynesian also has a great luau show and an amazing pool complete with a flowing volcano.
I hope some of this helps. Have a great time at Disney!|||I highly suggest Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Epcot. Do not, take your 5 year old to Universal Studios, I went as a three year old, and had nothing at all to do, since everything was thrill rides. I think you ment Hollywood Studios, and that is the one of the four Disney's I suggest you skip, although if your child is into playhouse Disney, it is a great place to consider, as they have a live playhouse disney Show. Magic Kingdom is a for sure, and your child will have a wonderful time at Animal Kingdom, be sure to visit the Dinoland USA park of the park and take your child to the dig pit, they will have lots of fun going down slides and digging for bones in the pit! At Magic Kingdom, basicly everything is great. Be sure to visit the Monster's Inc Laugh Floor and take a trip to Tom Saywer Island and explore over there. Both are great attractions for kids. If you have a little Princess, she will love to go to Pixie Hollow(if it is still open, they are redoing part of the park), and play there, otherwise, near Splash Mountain there is a great play area too. At Epcot, there are actually plenty of great things to do for kids. You always have the games at the end of Mission SPACE, which you don't need to go onto the ride to reach. There are also kid-cot fun stops around world showcase where your child can make their own crafts based on each culture. Really, Epcot is a great place to go with kids, and I know my brother and I always loved the maze garden in the UK, its around back, follow the shops, and turn left, its back by a gazebo.
What ever you choose to go to, have a great vacation. If you have any other last minute questions, please feel free to contact me, I will get back to you as soon as possible. My email is epcotexpert@yahoo.com
