I will be arriving in Orlando on new years day, the evening before my travel companion is scheduled to arrive and I would like to eat out some place on Disney property that is not counter service hamburgers, chicken fingers or pizza. I'm looking for a restaurant on disney property that has good food and that I won't feel awkward dining in alone. Any good recommendations?|||Depending on your dining preferences I can think of a number of venues. Some of them will depend on if you have park access and also where you are staying. Here's a few:
Boma - Animal Kingdom Lodge - Buffet, so you have lots of selection - African based food - Wander around and check out the animals after
Kona Cafe - Poly - Tropical themed american food - Fireworks after on the beach
Tony's Tavern - Magic Kingdom - Italian - Fireworks after in park
Coral Reef - Epcot - Seafood - You can watch the divers and the fish while you eat.
Check out www.alears.net's dining section, they have menus for all the disney restauarants.|||I would not feel awkward dining alone in any of the restaurants at Disney World. You will be surprised how fast you can make Friends and how the caste members will treat you.
So where would I eat if I were alone at Disney? I think I would go for a resort restaurant first, less crowded, often better food than many of the restaurants in the parks. Jiko in the Animal Kingdom lodge might be a good choice. It has a unique menu and a very welcome feel. You may also enjoy Chef Mickey's, in the Contemporary. The character meals can be really fun, even for adults, and the characters will definitely give you more attention for being alone. Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom is a good second choice for a character dinner. You might also consider a dinner show like the Hoop Dee Doo Review at the Wilderness Camp Grounds or the Luau at the Polynesian Resort.
What ever you do, just have fun. Disney is a great place to be alone, because you never really are.
